Oh no you didn’t

This commercial has been stuck in my brain for 2 days now.

As I’ve mentioned before, I do like to play video games occasionally. While typically these games end up being either some version of Civilization of Guild Wars, the original Mercenaries was so darn fun, I not only played it through 4 times or more, but I even used it as the basis of forming a Mercenary Team in the Civ IV demogame.

Not normally my kind of game, no thinking involved and all, it was a jolly romp through every Rambo and/or Schwartzenegger film ever made. Made playable for your enjoyment. Complete with one liners.

And, while I had been patiently awaiting the release of Mercenaries 2, I really haven’t paid close attention to it. So, when seeing the commercial Monday night, during a documentary on the Discovery channel of all things, I quickly hit the rewind button and hollered at the boys to come see (love TiVo).

However, the result has been this dang song, so annoying at first, getting STUCK IN ME BRAIN for 2 days now! THAT is some good marketing. Surely, we’ll be getting Mercenaries 2 when it comes out. And, if I see any trick or treaters dressed as Mattias, they’re sure to be getting an extra piece in their bucket.

Update:

They’ve released a full version of the wonderfull song, with a ‘making of’ video to go along with it.

Enjoy the full song stuck in your brains now…

The Dragon Wars Redux.

Well, as you may know, I was initially wrong on the timing of Dragon Wars on Scifi. Turns out it aired on Saturday night, not Friday. I must have heard the commercial wrong.

But, we have a detailed review from the family!!!

Kyles review:

As you can see, not only was the movie so thrilling that he fell asleep, the audio was so rivetting, he was compelled to cover his ears with pillows…

Alec’s Review:

Fleeing both sight and sound of the movie in a valiant attempt to level up some pokemon, he remained pounding the buttons in his sleep, and muttering something about some nonsense pokemon name as I lifted him into bed.

Cosette’s review:

Asleep, and seemingly annoyed at the same time.

Of course, not ALL of us fell asleep.

Jen found it more entertaining to go play on the laptop. Of course, she could not do so on the table as normal. NOOOO…that might allow that mind numbing vibe eminating from the movie sink in. So, she fled to the bedroom floor. Perhaps that explains why she’s so apparantly happy in her review.

Indy, meanwhile, found his fascination with this spoon…

This from the cat who plays fetch, drinks from the toilet, begs for table scraps, chews on my shoes, and is well on his way to learning to heel. I keep being reminded of the line in “The Last Crusade”: “We named the DOG Indy…”

Watching bad movies is certainly an acquired trait/taste. There are those, like me, who grew up on “Mystery Science Theater 3000”. For us, these movies offer a great opportunity to laugh. And the more serious the movie tries to be, the funnier it is. Dragon Wars certainly falls into this category, but I have most certainly seen worse films. Which would mean better films.

Hmmm….A halloween prop?

Hey, I won a contest!

Over on Apolyton, ny preferred place to go for Civilization info, they had a little contest for some Civilization Revolution prizes. Being a fan of Civilization in general, I entered, and WON!

Got a T-Shirt for Kyle…and an XBOX 360 faceplate.

I don’t have an XBOX 360.

And, while being interviewed about winning, I jokingly suggested I might just have to turn it into a halloween prop. Then Dan had to go and make it into a challenge to do so…

Hmmm…

I do need some odd beads for a necklace Jen is making for my costume. Could cut them out of there…

Little torch action could probably bend it into a good longbone shape…

Could probably carve out a little bunch of bones and make it into a hanging skeleton thingy.

Might even be able to distort it enough for a creepy face…

So, let me know what you think.

A return to oddity.

Boy, been going nuts.

The near daily trips to the local hardware stores to get odds and ends, and being treated actually NORMALLY was getting rough. “What ya building?”

“Oh, just some new floors…”

Boring. And, missing that oh so lovely bewildered look the ‘Oh, just something for Halloween’ typically gets. Especially prior to October.

But as I was out grabbing more stuff last night, I couldn’t resist the temptation to swing by Joann’s real quick. I’ve been waiting for something there…

And, though the new row upon row of fall/halloween items was nice…it was not it. Back to the clearance aisle where all the summer stuff is now 60% off. And, as I headed out the door with an armload full of grass table skirts, and everyone commenting “Oh, you must be having a Luau!” it was nice to see that puzzled look wash over everyone’s face when I smiled and replied.

“Nope, I just need these for Halloween.”

Oh, how I’ve missed that look.

Something you don’t see every day…

I was stopping off at the store on the way home last night, and there in the parking lot was something a little unusual.

A Chariot.

Not a horse and buggy, a regular CHARIOT. Open in the back, platform to stand on, 2 horse pulling. Now, it had that nice modern feel to it, as instead of ye olde spoke wheels, it had what appeared to be a pickup truck axel/tire/suspension thing going on, and the proper slow moving vehicle placard. Otherwise, it could have walked out of the days of Moses.

Now, I am vaguely aware there are still chariot races. And, while I haven’t seen a racing chariot before, and don’t claim to be an expert on horses, it was clear to me these were, for lack of the proper word, mutt horses, not bred for racing but probably more suited to pulling a plow.

And, as I sat there looking, a man comes out, throws whatever he bought into a little basket thing on the front, unties the horses from the tree, and starts trotting down the street.

Ya know, with the gas prices and all…How much are a couple mutt horses these days? And a chariot?

What’s this got to do with Halloween?

Some places out there still hold a Halloween Parade. Like the one in NYC. Why don’t we here? Bah, I’ld probably still be here at the home scarin’ kids. But, in a parade setting, a chariot properly decked out in egyptian style would just be an absolutely magnificent sight!

And then you could save on gas while driving around a part of your costume all year. If I see this chariot around again, I gotta ask if I can take it out for a spin.
