Failure.

Oh, don’t you just love failure?

It is in one’s nature to attempt to hide such things. But, I have a habit of putting them out on display.

Back in the days of building Charr, we had the whole fiasco with the legs. 4 failed configurations, and a bunch of $… before we settled in on what would become the final version.

Well, Steve 3 is an utter failure.

From 2010 Buildup

The IDEA was for Steve 3 to be less a mummy than he was a bindle of bones. Thinking something had gone wrong in the process or something along those lines…

It just wasn’t working. Too big, too ugly, not formed enough…

So, time to work out another plan.

No plans to make EVERY bone, but enough to portray the idea.

Go on failing. Go on. Only next time, try to fail better.

Time for me to fail at a new project.

Talia has named it “bear”.

I’m afraid my intended use for these is still secret…but I am going to promise a tutorial when they are done. (yes, they…)

Slow going…and spring scream time.

It’s been slow going as far as Halloween production goes…

Between injury, me being completely bedridden with sickness this last weekend, and Kyle’s various projects eating up time and space I normally use on Halloween….It’s been slow going.

We hope to have some updates on Steve 2….and 3…very soon, however.

But, more importantly, time has come once again for Spring Scream again.

Castle Of Chaos is once again opening this spring for 2 weekends to give us all a little bit of a Halloween primer.

In case you are not in the know, Castle of Chaos is one of our favorites. It’s one of the haunted houses that are NOT just about jumping out and screaming, or throwing as much scary stuff at you as they can. (though they do offer the Xtreme attraction if that’s what you’re into as well) They focus on FUN and telling a STORY with their haunt.

And, since that story changes every year, it’s always new and exciting.

Now, to find a time I can make it down…

Ouch.

Some little injuries have been slowing my progress these last two months.

First was Alec…

He fell in the bathroom downstairs, and that resulted in a late night trip to the hospital.

This, late at night…

And, to add insult to the injury, I was pulled over and given a fix it ticket on the way home from the hospital. This netted 2 lost nights of being able to work on something Halloween related. The night of the trip, and the next night, as it was well after midnight before we got home the night before, and I needed to catch up on sleep.

Then, there is my injury.

We should have taken a picture a day on the thing…

I fell whilst running around spraying those webs. And, I don’t bruise easy, nor do I complain about pain easy. But, that there…

I was able to ignore it initially, but it got bad enough to make me feel sick, and have to put the foot up that night. I’ve been uncomfortable sitting in most positions since then, not to mention standing or walking. That has put a real damper on things. Today’s the first day it’s felt decent. Here’s hoping things get better from here.

Just keep swimming…

So….

2 weeks ago, we spoke of this great plan

Plan A involved getting some conduit, bending it into a frame, then using chicken wire and paper mache, or even possibly fiberglass to make this thing.

Then, came plan B…It would be really handy if the thing was SECTIONAL…why not make that conduit into sections, instead of great big long pieces. So, we added a box, and some connectors…

That’s when we had to move onto plan C…Seems those little conduit connectors come with a rather flimsy nut on the side that connects to your boxes. I shopped around, and came up with a jam nut that will work…BUT, it’s size is making me re-design how to bend the conduit, and I now need a couple washers…

I was planning to have the legs DONE by now…instead, we haven’t even started, and we’ve had to scrap some conduit in the process…

It was bad enough that our second son got addicted to Finding Nemo, and I had to watch that thing every day for a few years while he was growing up. Now, our daughter is hooked on it as well…

Well, just keep swimming. We’ll be getting there. And anyone wondering why we start in January? Things like this…
